Truth and Patience
While reading the Quran a few days back, I came upon Surah/Chapter # 103, Al-Asr (The Time). I’ve read this Surah countless times, but today something dawned upon me. It felt surreal. I went into deep thought, thinking about the words, meanings, and how this Surah compresses everything into 3 verses.
If the people were to reflect upon Surat al-‘Asr, it would be enough for them.
Imam Ash Shafi
When you think about what Ash Shafi said, it’s so profound. These 3 verses of the Quran collect everything that a person should do and how mankind is in loss except for those who believed and did righteous deeds and advised each other towards truth and patience.
If you think about it, isn’t that religion/faith/humanity and everything in a nutshell?
If a person acts upon the last verse, wouldn’t it be sufficient for them? Wouldn’t they be a human worthy of being called a responsible citizen of this world? Wouldn’t they be someone people would gravitate towards? Wouldn’t they be the person who is not in the loss in this life and beyond? Wouldn’t they be the person to spread goodness in this world?
It’s amazing how such little words can have so many different and deep meanings.
May Allah guide us all and give us the blessing to understand and act on this Surah.
