My desk is a mess
My desk is a mess, even if I want to, I can’t keep it clean. Keeping my desk clean and empty of items is nearly impossible, not that I haven’t tried it, but I just can’t. Maybe I’m a genius? Don’t believe me? Let’s ask a real genius:
Albert Einstein famously remarked, “If a cluttered desk is the sign of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”
Thankfully I’m not empty-minded as Einstein is implying by the quote above.
But…
I’ve always had to hear a lot from people that my desk is messy and cluttered. I should make efforts to clean it up because a clean desk encourages more productivity and whatnot. I always use to feel guilty for my messy desk, and every now and then, that guilt would push me to take some action and launch Project Cleansweep, and very quickly, my desk would be sparkling clean.
But…
A couple of days later, well, you know what happened.
But…
Now I proudly own the messiness. I’ve learned through the experience again and again that I thrive more in chaos than in controlled situations. Messiness, clutter, and chaos attract me. It allows me to be more comfortable in the environment and perform better at whatever I’m doing. To clarify in, no is my desk a dumpster. I don’t encourage laziness or outright making your desk a garbage station. Everything on my desk is useful for me in some way. It is just not organized.
So…
Next time someone tells you, your desk is messy. Tell them what our homey Einstein said.
