I'm on a news detox, and I'm loving it
I used to read news articles every morning. I would wake up and check my phone as soon as I rolled out of bed, and the first thing I did was scroll through news articles on social media or news websites. It made me feel like I was on top of the world because it felt like I knew what everyone else knew before they even got there. But then, one day, something happened that changed my life: instead of reading news articles every morning, I didn’t read any news at all for a month straight. And you know what? My life became so much better! Did I miss out on anything? Probably not. I did gain back my sanity. Instead of starting my day stressed after reading some bad news, I spend that time reflecting and reading good stuff.
When I say I don’t read the news, it doesn’t mean I’ve just stopped keeping myself updated, I do read what’s happening and what’s new in my industry, but I’ve been detoxing from the usual “current affairs” type of news content. When I started my detox, I felt I might miss out on important stuff, or I’d lose my edge. Nothing happened. Anything really important reached me anyways through different mediums. I started feeling more relaxed. When I read the “Factfulness book,” I learned that most journalists are wrong most of the time anyway.

Initially, I decided to try this “news detox” for 30 days; I love it so much that I’ll just be making it permanent. I’ve unsubscribed to all “current affairs” type newsletters and will not actively read any such content.
Why don’t you also try it out for a week and see how you feel?
